Leeds Open

George Partridge won a Bronze Medal at the Leeds Open epee competition on 14th November.  George achieved 4 out of 6 possible victories in the first pool.  Usually clubmates don't meet each other in the first pool, but a computer glitch spelt Bedford  two ways (!!???) and meant that Jean-Luc and George met each other.  Jean-Luc won 5-4, and narrowly missed making the last 8 when he lost his DE by one hit after the fight went to priority.  George went on to fence very well and his direct elimination bouts were extremely hard fought.  His semi-final was with the eventual winner, Owen Jordan and couldn't have been any closer as George lost 15-14.

Well Done George.

Jean-Luc too had a good day:  he won 5/6  fights in his first pool.  He narrowly missed qualifying for the last 8 losing 13/12 in extension time after  9 minutes  fight.  He came 9th in a field of 66, an excellent result.

Silvia Brown made the last 8 in the Women's Sabre event.

And

Congratulations  to Ed Simpson, who narrowly missed the last 8 in a strong field of Men's Sabre but won the Best Veterans Award: a great result!
